Captopril

adverse effects:

  • severe hypotension

action: production of aldosterone to treat hypertension / treat manifestations of heart failure following MI

adverse effects:

  • hyperkalemia d/t potassium-sparing effects

interventions:

  • monitor signs of hyperkalemia = palpitations, muscle twitching, weakness, slow irregular heart rate, muscle cramps, hyperactive bowel sounds, diarrhea

  • monitor potassium levels, BUN, and creatinine

Propanolol

class: Class II Beta Blockers

other: acebutolol, esmolol, sotalol, bisoprolol, nadolol, pindolol

action: treat heart failure

adverse effects:

  • bradycardia

  • rebound excitation
