Photosynthesis
Process in which green plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce glucose and oxygen inside chloroplasts.
Chloroplast
Plant cell organelle where photosynthesis occurs.
Chlorophyll
Green pigment in chloroplasts that absorbs light energy for photosynthesis.
Glucose
Simple sugar produced during photosynthesis that serves as an energy source for cells.
Mitochondria
Cell organelles known as the "powerhouses" that generate energy through cellular respiration.
Cellular Respiration
Metabolic process in mitochondria converting glucose and oxygen into usable cellular energy (ATP).
Human Heart
Muscular organ with four chambers that pumps blood throughout the body.
Atria
The two upper chambers of the heart that receive blood returning to the heart.
Ventricles
The two lower chambers of the heart that pump blood out to the lungs and the rest of the body.
