A universal set of rules for the reporting, visualization, and presentation of business data developed by Hichert + Partner to improve comprehensibility and promote a uniform design.
SUCCESS rules
The integral set of rules serving as guidelines for designing reports, dashboards, and presentations: Say, Unify, Condense, Check, Express, Simplify, and Structure.

Categories of SUCCESS rules

SAY
rule focused on conveying a message through determinations, explanations, clarifications, recommendations

UNIFY
rule for applying semantic notation, ensuring that similar content is visualized in a similar manner and different content does not look the same.

CONDENSE
rule for increasing information density by including all necessary information to understand a message on a single page.

CHECK
rule for ensuring visual integrity by presenting information truthfully and avoiding misleading visuals like manipulated axes.

EXPRESS
rule for choosing proper visualization types (charts and tables) to convey messages and underlying facts quickly.

SIMPLIFY
rule for avoiding clutter by removing components that are complicated, redundant, distracting, or merely decorative.

STRUCTURE
rule for organizing content into a logical structure that forms a convincing storyline using consistent and exhaustive elements.
