Acid Fast Staining

• useful for identification of Acid-fast bacilli

• use as preliminary diagnosis of tuberculosis

• has high lipid content “mycolic acid”

Gram Ghost or Gram Neutral

• pale color appearance under microscope

• refers to acid-fast bacteria when stained with gram stain

• due to the high lipid content of bacteria

n-glycolyl muramic Acid

• responsible for the resistance of AFB in decolorization
