Unicellular

Cannot move freely in their environment (because they are usually inside other organisms)
What are the key features of the PROTISTA KINGDOM?
Unicellular or multicellular
Their cells contain a nucleus
Some can produce their own food but not all (algae for example)
Some can contain cell walls
Can move freely in their environment
Animalia
Contains all animals, including fish, reptiles, insects and some worms.
Generally divided into animals with backbones and animals without backbones.
Plantae
Contains organisms that grow in soil or water and usually provide food for other kingdoms.
Includes trees, flowers, moss and various water plants.
Plants are organised based on features such as leaves, roots, seeds, flowers and stems.
Fungi
Come in many shapes and sizes and are usually recognised by mushroom shapes.
Includes truffles, yeast and mould.
Were once classified as plants, but further study showed that fungi do not have dedicated root, stem or leaf systems like organisms in Plantae.
Fungi that grow on other organisms can be parasites that take food from others to feed themselves.
Monera
Organisms in this kingdom are thought to be those that began life on our planet.
If so, all life started with similar features to these tiny lifeforms.
These lifeforms are known as bacteria.
Protista
Contains organisms that do not fit into the other four kingdoms.
Includes amoeba and parasitic disease carriers such as Plasmodium, which causes malaria.
