You must read the text and literature through the historic eyes of the time it was written, not your 21st century eyes

Don’t use your own personal bias and step outside of your beliefs to see why that person or charecter in the story made the decision they did
Test applications
Sympathize with the historical context, try to understand the characters actions even if they seem weird because they may have been normal at that time period
Chapter 26 (Is He Serious and other Ironies)

Irony Trumps everything (ex: A character steps into rain to start again, then lightning strikes him down)

Expectation vs reality (ex: rain represents cleansing, but when Irony happens now the rain causes mud and chaos)
