Big Data
A collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using traditional data management tools.
The 4Vs of Big Data
Characteristics that define big data: Volume (amount of data), Variety (different forms of data), Velocity (speed of data creation), and Veracity (quality of data).
Data Warehouse
A large database that collects business information from many sources to support management decision-making.
Data Mart
A subset of a data warehouse used by small- and medium-sized businesses and departments within larger companies for decision-making.
Data Lake
A storage repository that holds a vast amount of raw data in its native format until it's needed for analysis.
Data Integration
The process of combining data from different sources, improving the quality of business decisions and aiding in competitive advantages.
Volume
A characteristic of big data referring to the amount of data created and stored by an organization.
Variety
A characteristic of big data that refers to the different forms of data organizations create or collect.
Velocity
A characteristic of big data that describes the speed at which data is created and processed.
Veracity
A characteristic of big data that refers to the quality or trustworthiness of data.
Challenges of Big Data
Includes issues like choosing what data to store, how to store it, and how to glean relevant insights from vast volumes of data.
Data Rich, Information Poor
A phrase that describes organizations with abundant data but lacking the means to generate meaningful information for decision-making.
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)
a process used to prepare data for analysis in data warehouses.
