is where two or more bones meet. They allow movement and provide mechanical support.

1. Mobility - allow movement

2. Support - hold the skeleton together

3. Flexibility and Shock Absorption - especially in synovial joints.

Structural Classification

1. Fibrous - Bones joined by fibrous tissue ; immovable

2. Cartilaginous - Bones joined by cartilage; slightly movable

3. Synovial - Bones separated by a fluid-filled cavity; freely movable.

Joints Pathophysiology

• Space inside (Synovial fluid) → Lubrication → allow movement

• Cartilage → Shock absorber

• Synovium → connective tissues; makes fluid
