what are the two types of enzyme inhibition
competetive
non competetive
what dk inhibitors do
reduce the rate of reaction
what is competitive inhibition
competetive inhibitors have a similar shape to the substrate though can vary in size
must have a complimentary shape
they bind to the active site and form an enzyme inhibitor complex
it blocks the substrate from entering the by blocking the active site reducing the number of es complexes
however if substrate concentration is increased they can outcompete the inhibitor and bind
what is non competitive inhibition
do not compete with the substrate for the active site
attatch away from the active site at the allosteric site and distort the tertiary shape of the enzyme which leads to a change in the active site
this means the substrate no longer fits so no es complexes can form which decreases the rate of reaction
increasing substrate concentration will not increase the rate of reaction
