Noun
A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Common Nouns
Used to name any person, place, or things.
Proper Nouns
Used to name a specific person, place, thing, or idea.
Concrete Noun
A noun that can be perceived by one of 5 senses.
Abstract Noun
A noun that cannot be perceived by one of 5 senses.
Collective Noun
A noun that names a group of people or things.
Compound Noun
Two or more words that name one person or thing.
Noun indicators
The articles a, an, and the.
Possessive words as nouns
Words ending in 's are not nouns unless used as part of a proper name, for example: Fisherman's Wharf.
Proper Adjectives
Words made of proper nouns that are capitalized but function as adjectives.
