Adab
Fine manners, good behavior, and politeness (budi pekerti yang halus, tingkah laku yang baik, budi bahasa).
Beradab
Having good manners or being polite; it also refers to a person or society that has reached an advanced stage of development in life.
Peradaban
The system and stage of social and cultural development or progress of a specific nation.
Adat Resam
The habits or customs specific to a certain race or region, including traditions for birth, marriage (merisik, bertunang, bersanding, berinai), and death.
Adat Istiadat
Various customs and rules followed during official ceremonies, such as a coronation (pertabalan) or a wedding.
Etika (Linguistic definition)
Moral principles or moral values (adab sopan) that are held by an individual or a specific group of humans.
Etika (Sociological definition)
A comprehensive standard of right and wrong that explains what humans should do in the context of rights, responsibilities, and benefits to society.
Etos (Linguistic definition)
The specific traits or characteristics of a nation, culture, or era; for example, Malaysian artists reflecting national philosophy.
Etos (Sociological definition)
Efforts to build a nation based on the diverse backgrounds of individuals, families, and communities, including history, ethnicity, and geography.
Etiket
Customs and rules of non-politeness in social life or specific professions, such as table manners (etiket di meja makan) or behavior in public transport.
Zaman Pra Kolonial
The traditional era before the arrival of colonizers where adab, adat resam, and adat istiadat were already established through informal education and migration.
Zaman Kolonial
The era of colonization by powers such as the Portuguese, Belanda (Dutch), British, and Jepun (Japanese), where Western ethics like handshakes and neckties were introduced.
Zaman Pasca Kolonial
The modern era after colonization where digital technology and 'borderless' ethics have emerged, potentially impacting traditional cultural values and behavior.
Struktur Sosial
The system of relationships and social systems built within a society that drive social dynamics, often based on education, housing, or occupation.
Struktur Masyarakat Melayu Tradisional
A social structure divided into Golongan DiRaja (Royalty), Bangsawan (Nobility), Rakyat Merdeka (Free People), and Hamba (Slaves).
Struktur Sosial Moden
A social structure categorized as Kelas Atasan (Upper Class), Kelas Menengah (Middle Class), and Kelas Bawahan/Pekerja (Lower/Worker Class).
Biografi
The life story or history of an individual, as well as the sociological phenomena and historical processes that shape the experiences of families and communities.
Acuan Malaysia
The unique Malaysian 'mold' for ethics and civilization, featuring plural kaums (races) living harmoniously and maintaining cultural practices like kissing a parent's hand (mencium tangan ibu bapa).
