DOT: Don't be late for supper.
Please, madam, a cup of tea will make you feel ever so much better!
INEZ: Nothing will make me feel better until Guy's home where he belongs.
But, madam, think of the children.
INEZ: I know! I know! I just don't know what to do!
If you don't mind me saying so, Mr. Turner's a man, and sometimes men just need to go off on their own.
INEZ: Guy would never leave us, Doris, especially after all that's happened, would he?
You put that notion right out of your mind.
INEZ: I'm trying to. I have to. But Constable Puffler implied that Guy is in some kind of trouble and that he's… he's… running away from it.
Then the constable should be helping you.
MILLY: Look who we've brought, Mother.
Oh my stars and heavens!
INEZ: You're… you're so right, Mr. Holmes. Doris, would you take the girls into the kitchen?
Maybe we ought to be making those special shortbread cookies, madam?
INEZ: Yes. Run along.
We need dozens and dozens for you know what!
MILLY: See? Everything's better already!
Come along, girls! (offstage)
MILLY: They're the best shortbread ever!
Because I had the two best helpers in the world!
INEZ: I'll try one later.
Perhaps a cup of tea, ma'am?
MAGGIE: And if that doesn't work, we've got Sherlock Holmes on the case.
I'll see to that, ma'am.
MILLY: We promise we won't play with them.
Perhaps for the sake of a few smiles, ma'am…
DOT: One for you!
And for you!
INEZ: How about in the kitchen? And have a cookie while you're at it.
The girls just finished baking cookies. Could we tempt you to try one?
DOT: Seeing how dinner's going to be late, I'd love one.
Right this way then.
MILLY: Mr. Holmes will bring him! He has to, doesn't he?
(decorations on stage) Look what I've got!
MAGGIE: And paper flowers.
We'll be so decked out, everybody will think they're in Buckingham Palace!
MILLY: It's almost time for the party.
And everything's just about ready.
MILLY: You know something?
What, Milly, my pet?
MILLY: Me three!
Come along girls! Do you see that star up there?
MAGGIE: The big, bright one?
That's the evening star. And they say if you look upon the evening star and make a wish without blinking, your wish will come true.
MILLY: Really?
When I was a small girl, I wanted a doll that I'd seen in a shop window. She dressed like a princess and even wore a crown. But she was very, very expensive.
MAGGIE: Did you wish without blinking?
I did. And on the morning of my birthday, there, sitting on the edge if my bed, was my doll.
MILLY: Really? (second time)
And do you know something? I still got her.
INEZ: Doris, what's wrong with the girls?
Shhh!
MILLY: I guess so!
I don't think the evening star's ever had two more serious wishers.
INEZ: And what's all this?
It looks like a party.
MAGGIE: It was all father's idea.
And all the guests will be here in half an hour.
DOT: I wished upon the first star I saw at night.
Beggin' your pardon, miss, but we've already tried that.
GUY: Oh, my dear, what a scare you must of had!
Welcome home, sir!
