What happens in simple covalent bonding?
Electrons are shared to ensure both atoms have full outer shells
What happens if both atoms have full outer shells?
they are both stable
What happens if there are 4 electrons shared?
It is a double bond
What are the forces of attraction within the molecule?
Attraction of electrons of one atom to nucleus of the other atom
What are forces of repulsion in the molecule?
repulsion between 2 nuclei of bonded atoms and electrons of bonded atoms, so they arrange themselves so they are far away to minimise repulsion
What happens when 2 atoms approach eachother?
Outer electrons of each atom repel each other whilst positive nucleus pull electrons towards itself -> When forces are equal, atoms come to rest and you can determine interatomic distance
