Earthquake Protocol

Honor (Karangalan)

The military's crowning value; the hallmark of military conduct; the quality of the soldier's consciousness of personal dignity and self-worth.

Patriotism (Katapatan)

Foremost among these values is the soldier's unwavering love for his country. Implies expressing strong support in words and deeds to leaders, subordinates, and fellow service members.

Duty (Pagtupad sa Tungkulin)

Not imposed; derives its authority from the soldier's steadfast commitment to the service of the country. Rendering service that demands willingness to sacrifice even life itself.

Military Leadership

The art of influencing men in such a manner as to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation.

Leadership Traits

Personal qualities that are of direct value to the leader in gaining the willing obedience, confidence, respect, and loyal cooperation of his men in accomplishing a mission.

Leadership Principles

Fundamental guidelines for the selection of appropriate action and orders in the proper exercise of command.

Command

Authority which an individual in the military service lawfully exercises over subordinates by virtue of rank, assignment, or position.

Leadership (General)

Refers to that process whereby an individual directs, guides, influences, or controls the thoughts, feelings, or behavior of other human beings.

Authoritative Leadership

A dictatorial type of leadership where a single person makes all decisions. Expectations are always clear. This type causes the most discontent in any establishment.

Participative Leadership

A democratic leadership style that is participatory; recognized as the most effective form of leadership.

Delegative Leadership

A style where the leader organizes priorities and delegates tasks and decisions to others while taking final responsibility.

Bearing

General appearance, carriage, deportment, and conduct.

Courage

A mental quality that recognizes fear of danger or criticism but enables a man to proceed in the face of it with calmness and firmness.

Decisiveness

A positive approach, little waste of time, objectivity, timely analysis, and sound evaluation of opinions made by others.

Dependability

Performance of duty; a quality the leader must develop. A dependable leader can be relied upon to carry out any activity with willing effort.

Endurance

The mental and physical stamina measured by the ability to withstand pain, fatigue, stress, and hardship (akin to courage).

Enthusiasm

The display of sincere interest and zeal in the performance of duty.

Initiative

Taking action in the absence of orders.

Integrity

The uprightness and soundness of moral principles; the quality of truthfulness and honesty.

Judgement

The ability to logically weigh facts and possible solutions on which to base sound decisions.

Justice

Giving everyone his due; being equitable, impartial, and consistent in bestowing awards and punishment.

Knowledge

Acquired information, including knowledge of the job and knowledge of the men.

Loyalty

The quality of faithfulness to country, the Army, seniors, subordinates, and peers.

Tact

The ability to deal with others in a respectful manner.

Unselfishness

One who avoids providing for his own comfort and personal advancement at the expense of others.

Guard

A special unit responsible to the Officer of the Day for the protection and security of an installation or area. An individual responsible to keep watch over, protect, shield, defend, warn, or perform duties prescribed by general orders. Also referred to as Sentinel, Sentry, or Lookout.

Sentry / Sentinel / Lookout

An individual or enlisted personnel assigned to duty as a member of the guard keeping watch over a post.

Officer of the Day (OD)

An officer acting directly under the commanding officer responsible for the guard detail.

Commander of the Guard

The senior officer or non-commissioned officer of the guard.

Sergeant of the Guard (SOG)

The senior non-commissioned officer of the guard.

Corporal of the Guard (COG)

Non-commissioned officer responsible for assigning sentries and reporting violations.

Company

Includes battery or any other similarly organized military unit.

Guard House

A building occupied by personnel detailed for interior guard duty.

Challenge

The command "HALT, WHO IS THERE?" used to cause an unidentified person to halt and be identified.

Password

A word or distinctive sound used to answer a challenge.

Countersign

A secret challenge and password scheme.

Fixed Post

A specific post with defined physical limits.

Sentinel Post

An area for which the sentinel is responsible.

Confinement Officer

A Military Police assigned to a stockade facility.

Relief

Procedure whereby members of the post are relieved and new members are posted in place.

Relieved

To direct any member of the guard to cease performance of duty.

Watch

A period of time during which a member of the guard performs prescribed duties.

Stockade

A confinement facility.

General Orders

Orders applied to ALL sentries on the main and special guard.

Special Orders

Orders promulgated by the Commanding Officer for specific posts and situations.

Interior Guard

Detailed by commanders of military installations to preserve order, protect property, and enforce regulations. Consists of Main Guard and Special Guard.

Exterior Guard

Guards whose duties and responsibilities differ from those set down for interior guards (e.g., tactical outposts).

Military Organization

The structured system by which a country's armed forces are arranged, managed, and commanded to carry out national defense and security missions.

Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM)

AFP Unified Command headquartered at Camp Guillermo Nakar, Quezon Avenue, Brgy. Gulang-gulang, Lucena City, Quezon.

Western Command (WESCOM)

AFP Unified Command headquartered at Camp General Artemio G. Ricarte, Brgy. San Miguel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Central Command (CENTCOM)

AFP Unified Command headquartered at Camp Lapu-Lapu, Brgy. Apas (Lahug district), Cebu City.

Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM)

AFP Unified Command headquartered at Camp General Basilio Navarro, Brgy. Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Eastern Mindanao Command (EASTMINCOM)

AFP Unified Command headquartered at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City.
