• unclean conditions and lack of access to medical services = poor health

• no access to education → can’t develop the skills needed to get better jobs

• high levels of unemployment and crime

• as cities grow rapidly , factories can’t keep pace

• rubbish isn’t collected so can end up on rubbish heaps, can damage environment and be toxic

• air pollution comes from burning fossil fuels
