What three things happened at the moment of Jesus’ death

  • The sky went dark- a symbol of him dying for our sins.

  • The earth shook- seen as God

  • A curtain ripped- it was believed that behind the curtain was God’s presence. This symbolised that we could now reach him (atonement)

These things happened at 3pm when Jesus died

Why is the crucifixion important

  • The crucifixion is important because it proves that God is omnibenevolent because he is willing to die and go through a lot of pain for everyone.

  • The crucifixion is important because it fixed the relationship between God and humans. This is clear when Jesus says “it is done”. AKA atonement happened.

  • The crucifixion is important because it confirmed Jesus was God and omnipotent because the sky suddenly went dark, the earth shook, the curtains of the temple split and atonement happened.
