Asexual Reproduction
A reproductive process that occurs relatively quickly and produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.
Binary Fission
A method of asexual reproduction in which a single organism splits into two identical organisms, commonly seen in bacteria.
Budding
A form of asexual reproduction where a new organism develops from an outgrowth or bud on the parent organism.
Fragmentation
A type of asexual reproduction in which an organism breaks into fragments, each capable of growing into a new organism.
Vegetative Reproduction
Asexual reproduction that occurs in plants, where new individuals arise without production of seeds or spores.
Mitosis
The process of cell division that results in two genetically identical daughter cells, crucial for growth and repair in multicellular organisms.
Meiosis
A specialized form of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, producing four genetically diverse gametes.
Interphase
The stage of the cell cycle during which the cell prepares for division, occurring before both mitosis and meiosis.
Anaphase
A stage in both mitosis and meiosis where the chromosomes are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell.
Telophase
The final stage of cell division in both mitosis and meiosis, where the cell begins to divide and nuclear membranes form around the separated chromosomes.
