What are the dental arches?

• The maxillary arch is sometimes referred to as the upper arch.

• The mandibular arch may also be referred to as the lower arch

How many teeth in each quadrant in complete adult dentition?

eight permanent teeth

In permanent dentition, what are the different teeth type sin anterior vs posterior teeth?

Anterior teeth (teeth toward the front of the mouth) typically include the central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines.

• anterior has incisors and canine/cuspid

Posterior teeth (teeth toward the back of the mouth) in the primary dentition include both the first and second molars.

• In the permanent dentition, the posterior teeth include first and second premolars and all three molars

• posterior has premolars/bicuspids and molars

What are sextants? How many teeth in each?

The dentition can also be divided into six segments called sextants

There are 5 teeth in each of the four posterior sextants and six teeth in both anterior sextants

• sextants 1,3,4,6 are posterior

• sextants 2 and 5 are anterior
