Faceoff

The method of starting play in lacrosse where two opposing players attempt to gain possession of the ball after it is put on the ground at the center of the field.

Slash

A penalty called for hitting an opponent with the stick above the shoulders or below the waist, often resulting in a free position for the opposing team.

Hold

A penalty for restraining an opponent or their stick during play, typically resulting in a free position for the offended team.

tripping

A penalty for causing an opponent to fall by using a player's stick or body to trip them, usually resulting in a free position for the opposing team.

crank shot

A type of lacrosse shot executed by quickly bringing the stick down and back, then snapping it forward to generate speed and power, often used to score from outside the crease.

Over hand shot

A lacrosse shot technique where the player holds the stick above their shoulder and strikes the ball downwards, providing accuracy and speed, commonly used in shooting on goal.

save

An action by the goalie to stop a shot on goal, preventing the ball from entering the net.

yard sale

A situation in lacrosse where a player loses possession of the ball, typically due to a hit or check, causing their stick and gear to fly out of their hands, resembling items for sale at a yard sale.
