The societies “normal” at the time.

Liberal

Favors progress/reforms. Generally left. Mid left

Conservative

Preserving status quo or going back in reforms. Mid right

Radical

Wanting big changes and going FORWARD. Liberalism. EXTREME FAR LEFT.

Reactionary

Wanting big changes and going BACK. Conservative. EXTREME FAR RIGHT.

Revolutionary

People who hate the status quo. Want to COMPLETELY get rid of it and CREATE a new one. Either right wing or left wing.
