Acoustical Door
Solid, heavy door which is gasketed along the top and sides; especially constructed to reduce noise transmission through it.
Stile
One of the upright structural members of a frame, as the outer edge of a door or a window sash.
Door Jamb
It is the vertical member on each side of the door.
Door Trim
The casing or moldings used around a door frame to conceal the crack or joint between the frame and wall or for decorative effects.
Panel Door
A door having stiles, rails and sometime mutins which form one or more frames around recessed panels.
Casement window
A window which swings open along its entire length.
Ceiling Strap or Hanger
A strip of wood nailed to the underside of floor joists or rafters from which the ceiling is suspended or fastened.

Spacer
A piece of concrete which holds or support steel reinforcement in its proper position or which holds structural forms at a given distance apart before and during concreting.
Foundation
Portion f the structural elements that carry or support the super structure of the building.

Beam
A structural member whose primary function is to carry transverse loads.
Rebars
A steel bar having ribs to provide greater bonding strength when used as a reinforcing bar in a reinforced concrete.
Dowel
Short reinforcing bars of steel which extend approximately equally into two abutting pieces of concrete, to increase the strength of the joints.
Tie Bars
A deformed bar used as tie to hold vertical reinforcements of columns in place.
Stirrups
A reinforcement device to resist shear and diagonal tension stresses in beam.

Rafter
One of a series of inclined members to which the roof covering is fixed.
Gutter
A shallow channel of metal, wood or concrete set immediate below and along the eaves of a building to catch and carry off rainwater from the roof.
Flashing
To prevent water penetration and or provide water drainage especially between a roof and a wall.
Fascia Board
A board that is nailed horizontally to the ends of roof rafters; sometimes supports a gutter.
Gable Roof or Pitch Roof
The most common type and economical form of roof made of triangular sections consisting of 2 slopes meeting at the center of the ridge.
Collar Plate
The ties between rafters on opposite side of the roof
Ridge Roll
A metal or tile covering which caps the ridge of a roof.
Truss
A structure composed of a combination of members, usually in some triangular arrangement so as to constitute a rigid framework.
Gusset Plate
A plate usually triangular in shape, use to connect two or more members, or to add strength to a framework.
Rivet
A short pin of malleable metal such as iron, steel or copper, with a head at one end, used to unite two metal plates by passing it through a hole in both plates and then hammering down the point to form a second head.
Sag Rod
Refers to steel bar usually 16mm or 20mm diameter rod attached at the center or endpoints of the span of purlins.
Shop Weld
The structural members are welded on the shop before delivering at the site.
Butt Hinge
A hinge composed of 2 plates or leaves joined together by a pin and secured to the abutting surfaces of wood and hollow metal doors and door jambs.
Door Stop
a device placed on a wall behind a door or mounted on the floor to prevent opening the door to wide, also called door bumper.
Full-Surface Hinge
Have two leaves surface mounted to the adjacent faces of a door and doorframe.
Fixed Transom
An inoperable panel or glass light over a door.
Bypass Sliding Door
Doors slide on overhead track and along guides or a track on the floor, requires no operating space but is difficult to seal against weather and sound. Offers access only through 50% of the doorway width.
Sash
The fixed or movable framework of a window in which panes of glass are set.
Window sill
The horizontal member beneath a door or window opening, having an upper surface sloped to shed rainwater.
Window rails
The horizontal members framing a window sash.
Mullion
A vertical member separating a series of windows or doorways.
Jalousie Window
A window consisting of a series of overlapping horizontal glass louvers which pivot simultaneously in a common frame and are actuated by one or more operating devices.
Anodized, Baked Enamel, Flouropolymer Resin
Type of Aluminum finishes.
Baluster
A small post supporting the handrail or a coping.
Flight of Stair
The series of steps leading from one landing to another
Newel
The central column where the steps of a staircase wind.
Carriage or Stringer
Portion which supports the steps of a wooden stairs.
Stair Riser
The vertical face of stair steps.
Stairwell
The place occupied by the flight of stairs.
Tread Length
The dimension of a tread measured perpendicular to the normal line of travel on a stair.
Girder
A principal beam extending from wall to wall of a building supporting the floor joists or floor beams.
Anchor or Anchorage
a device such as metal rod wire or strap, for fixing one object to another, as specially formed metal connections used to fastened together timbers, masonry, trusses, etc.
Live Load
Refers to those movable loads imposed on the floor such as people, furniture and the like.
Substructure
The habitable below ground portion.
