Helpful in determining if the anxiety is one of an emotional reaction “state” versus more of a personality “trait”
GAD-7
7-question instrument; helps clinician to determine if generalized anxiety disorder may be present; also available online
Minnesota Multiphastic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2)
Consists of 567 true/false questions over 10 clinical scales including depression, somatization, anxiety, antisocial tendencies, paranoia, mania, and psychoticism
The Million Clinical Multi-axial Inventory-IV
A shorter test with 195 items; better for assessing the presence of a personality disorder; maps well on the DSM-5
The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI)
Consists of 344 items; shorter version, called the PAS or personality assessment screener, contains only 22 items and takes less than six minutes
Document the name of the patient’s primary care provider (PCP) and the date of last physical, take a complete history of of any treatment for the presenting problem, prepare a mental status assessment
