Story Telling in Business (Good story is made of... 4 things)
Storytelling is useful in interviews to adapt your story to the needs and desires of the interviewing company, not just in marketing. A good story is made of:
-compelling characters
-a problem to be solved
-a beginning middle & end
-& strong description and dialogue
In business, compelling characters must be...
dynamic, undergo some sort of change, and overcome adversity
A Problem to be Solved
Shows adversity and how the main character overcomes it - give specific answers.
A Beginning Middle and End
Most stories do not have a strong conclusion & most do not need a full resolution. But, without a basic structure, the story won't convey the desired meaning to the interviewer.
Strong Description and Dialogue
Details make the story more compelling and give the complete picture. (2 vs. 1)
Archetypes are...
Emotionally charged images and thought forms that have universal meaning. In business, certain branding strategies are drawn from these archetypes

Regular Guy/Girl
Everyman, appeals to people that like to belong to a group. Look for acceptance as ordinary. Companies like Levi & Budweiser play on this group mentality.
Innocent
Appeal to need for simplicity and honesty, the organic market is an example. Anti-vietnam movement and hippies. VW used this to remodel the bug and hippies flocked to the dealership to get them.
Rebel
Anti-establishment. A company that uses this approach is Harley-Davidson. "Be yourself, buy a harley".
