What is an acid?
An acid is a substance that donates protons (H+) in a chemical reaction and has a pH less than 7.
What is a base?
A base is a substance that accepts protons or donates hydroxide ions (OH-) and has a pH greater than 7.
What is a salt?
A salt is an ionic compound formed from the neutralization reaction of an acid and a base.
What is the pH scale?
The pH scale is a numeric scale ranging from 0 to 14 used to specify the acidity or basicity of a solution. A pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is basic.
What is the reaction called when an acid and a base react?
The reaction between an acid and a base is called neutralization.
Give an example of a strong acid and a strong base.
A strong acid example is hydrochloric acid (HCl), and a strong base example is sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
