French Revolution/American Revolution

Both began as a fight against monarchy and inequality. Would inspire the world to stand up and overthrow governments that protect your rights. American revolution inspired the 3rd estate.

National Assembly

The Third Estate broke off from the 1st and 2nd Estate when the King refused to vote by population. It felt it had no say, so they created their own National Assembly.It enacted laws and reforms in the name of the French people. They would eventually be part of the Tennis Court Oath, come up with the DOROMAC.

Due to storming of the Bastille, march on Versailles, out of fear for his safety, he went along with the National Assembly.

(1793-94) during the French Revolution when thousands were executed for "disloyalty" to the French people. They were against the revolution or sympathized with the King.

A pledge made by the members of France's National Assembly in 1789, in which they vowed to continue meeting until they had drawn up a new constitution. The first time a group of French people formally stood up against the Monarchy.

Legislative Assembly

This legislative body ruled France during the First French Republic. Replaced the National Assembly and was a limited monarchy. It did not last long because the King tried to escape France, after that, the people decided there is no need to even have a limited monarchy, get rid of the whole thing.

Why would the Monarchs give the 1st Estate so much power?

Remember what we talked about in the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment, religion plays a big part of the lives of the people. If you control the Church and have them follow your lead, you keep the people (who are living these terrible lives) in check and make sure they are not causing issues.
