define polygamy
the practice of a man having more then one wives at a time.
Christian views on polygamy
Attitudes for- there are still some christian’s such as mormons who believe polygamy is acceptable and actively encouraged their members to have multiple partners. There are examples in the bible of people who practices this , eg moses had two wives.
Attitudes against - polygamy is illegal in the UK , many view polygamy as adultery.
Muslim views on polygamy
Attitudes for- Prophet muhammad had several wives , original reasons for polygamy was to protect their wives , especially widows. Polygamy is allowed in some countries only if he is able to love and support all of them and he must have consent from this first wife.
Attitudes against- The practice is not really considered applicable to modern day life, and muslims would now say an ideal family is a nuclear one.
Buddhist views on polygamy
Attitudes against - not encourages as it can cause suffering due to unsuitable relationships , “ being a co-wife is painful”.
Religious views on same sex parenting
Christian
For-Some christian’s believe it’s important for children to be in a loving and secure family regardless of the gender of the parents.
Against-Catholics believe that same sex parenting is sinful and you are unable to procreate,”be fruitful and multiply”. Some disapprove as they believe it is ideal for children to grow in a nuclear family.
Muslim
For-Some think in the 21st century the gender of parents does not matter.
Against- Howferr they generally don’t approve because the ideal is nuclear family with a male and female , and also just consider SSP to be morally wrong.
Buddhism
For- Allow same sex marriages as happiness can be found in ALL types of families.
