Gospel
The record of Jesus’s life and teaching in the first four books of new testament - “God’s Story”
Value
Something such as a principle or quality - Relative worth, utility, or importance
Sacrament
A christian rite (baptism, confirmation, etc) - Held to have been means of divine grace or a sign or symbol of spiritual reality
Freedom
The condition or right of being able to do, say, think, etc. what you want to without being limited
Beatitude
Complete happiness that comes from being blessed - The blessings listed by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount
Old testament
The first of two main parts of the bible - Records the history of jewish people before the birth of jesus
Covenant
A formal/written agreement or promise between two or more people - An agreement between God and humans, a relationship defined by promises and conditions
Good life
Living a life that reflects God’s love, seeks truth and justice, and contributes to the well-being of others, while growing in faith and holiness.
Obligation
What one is bound by duty or contract to do
Sin
An immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law
New Testament
Second part of the Bible, which includes teachings of Jesus and early Church
Spirituality
The recognition of a feeling or sense of belief that there is something greater than oneself - And individuals search for ultimate or sacred meaning and purpose in life
Morality and Ethics
Ethics: a discipline that deals with the nature of the good, the nature of the human person, and the criteria that we use for making right judgments. Morality: a system of right conduct based on fundamental beliefs and obligation to follow certain codes, norms, customs, and habits of behaviours
Human freedom
Human freedom is the ability to choose your actions and take responsibility for them - It means you are not completely controlled by outside forces – you still have free will
Naturalism
The belief that everything in the universe (including human actions) is controlled by natural laws – especially biology, chemistry, and physics.
Religious Determinism
Religious Determinism (Predestination): the belief that God controls everything, including all human choices
Social Determinism
The belief that your actions are shaped by your upbringing, culture, social status, and past experiences.
Conscience
Conscience is your inner sense of right and wrong – the voice inside that guides your moral choices
Narcissism
Narcissism is excessive self-centeredness of self-love
Gospel
the Gospel means “Good News” - It refers to: 1. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ 2. The message of salvation and God’s love for humanity 3. The first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
Covenant
a covenant is a sacred agreement between God and His people - It involves promises and commitments from both sides - In the Bible, covenants are central to how God builds a relationship with humanity
Beatitudes
The Beatitudes are the opening lings of the Sermon on the Mount - They are blessings that describe the attitudes and actions of people living in God’s Kingdom
Happiness
Living in right relationship with God, others, yourself, and creation - Living a life of love, faith, justice, and service
Good life
Means becoming the person God created you yo be – holy, loving, and free
Heaven
Eternal life with God - A place of perfect peace, joy, and love - Where we are united with God forever
Hell
Eternal separation from God - Chosen by people who freely reject God’s love and never repent
Social Justice
Social justice means making sure that everyone gets what they need and deserve – like dignity, fairness, equality, and opportunity
