What SpO₂ measures
Percent of hemoglobin carrying oxygen; indicates how much oxygen the body is getting.

Low oxygen level.
When do we get SpO₂?
Every call using the pulse ox.
Where are O₂ supplies?
Pulse ox in fannies; NRB and nasal cannulas in top flap of the primary; O₂ tank in main pocket.
Normal SpO₂ range
95%–100%.
EST cutoff: SpO₂ ≤ 94%
Administer oxygen (NRB or nasal cannula depending on patient tolerance and aspiration risk).
Flow rate: nasal cannula
6 L/min.
Flow rate: NRB
15 L/min.
Flow rate: BVM
25 L/min.
Cold hands or nail polish fix
Warm the hand, use toe/earlobe, turn probe sideways off the nail, or use remover.
