What is the motor effect?

when a wire with current flowing through it is is placed in a magnetic field and experiences a force

What does each finger in Flemings left hand rule represent

thrust = thumb, field = first finger, current = second finger

3

How does a D.C Motor work using the motor effect

there is a coil attached to split ring, splitting it into 2. this split ring is connected in a circuit with the cell via contact with conducting carbon brushes

4
New cards

What factors affect a D.C Motor coil speed

current, strength of magnetic field

5
New cards

What factors can change a D.C. Motor direction of rotation?

reversing : current, poles

How does a loudspeaker work using motor effect?

a coil is wrapped around a permanent magnet and attached to a speaker cone. alternating current is flown through the coil, which creates a magnetic field that interacts with the field from the magnetic. motor effect means this makes a force, because it is constantly alternating, the coil oscillates making the speaker cone oscillate creating sound waves

What is important to know about the position of the 2 magnets relative to each other

they must be at 90 degrees for max interaction, if they are parallel no interaction will happen
