What are the main functions of the excretory system?
To eliminate non-solid waste from the body
Lungs exhale CO2
Sweat glands release excess water and salts
Kidneys filter and clean blood
What are the main parts of the kidey?
Medulla
Cortex
Renal artery
Renal vein
Nephrons
Ureter
What are the main parts of the nephrons?
Renal artery
Glomerulus
Bowman’s capsule
Proximal convoluted tubule
Loop of Henle
Distal convoluted tubule
Collecting ducts
Ureter
What are the three main steps of the nephrons?
Filtration
Reabsorption
Excretion
What is the process that urine takes through the nephrons?
Blood gets filtered in the glomerulus and filtrate is taken into the bowman’s capsule
The remains are then moved through the proximal convoluted tubule where glucose and amino acids are reabsorbed
Moves down the loop of henle, reabsorbing water
Moves up the loop of henle, reabsorbing ions within the urine via special protein channels
The remains go through the distal convoluted tubules and into the collecting ducts where more water is reabsorbed
What is left is urine, going through the ureter
