What is the mass of sodium chloride that will be made when 12g sodium reacts with 12g chlorine?

find the balanced equation 2Na + Cl2 → 2NaCl

then calcualte both of the molar mass

sodium = 0.52

chlorine = 0.17

find the limiting reactor. To use the full sodium (0.52), you need 0.26 of chlorine. But you have 0.17, so chlorine is the limiting reactor.

Look back to equation, it takes 1 chlorine to make to sodium chloride.

0.17 × 2 =0.34

find the mass (FORMULA = molar x relative formula mass)

0.34 × 58.8 =19.992
