ACE inhibitors (-pril)
Common side effects include dry cough and high potassium.
Metformin
Causes GI upset / diarrhea; should be taken with food.
Statins (-statin)
Commonly associated with muscle pain (myalgia).
Opioids
Common side effects include constipation and sedation.
Furosemide (loop diuretic)
Associated with low potassium.
Amiodarone
Can cause blue-gray skin, as well as thyroid and lung effects.
Albuterol
Common side effects include tremor and fast heart rate.
Prednisone (steroids)
Causes high blood sugar and insomnia; should be taken in the AM with food.
Spironolactone
Common side effects include high potassium and gynecomastia.
Sulfonylureas (glipizide)
Associated with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Metronidazole
Causes a metallic taste; patients should avoid alcohol.
SSRIs
Causes GI and sexual effects; generally takes 4−6 weeks to work.
