5 criticisms of biological model
can’t explain all mental disorders, epigenetics- reciprocal gene-environment interaction, fosters helplessness, biochemical changes, not just genes-alleles and critical developmental periods (prenatally), suggests direct correspondence but with organic cause and mental dysfunction
Humanistic approach
client centered therapy figured out what the blocks were (rogers), self actualization with environment blocking us from all we can be
Rational emotive theory
we can’t control what happens to us but can control how we think about them and therefore can influence how we feel
construct validity
test measures what it is supposed to measure, not something else
concurrent
test yields the same results as other measures of the same behavior, thoughts, feelings
neuropsychological testing
assesses sensorimotor, cognitive, perceptual, executive function, memory, attention
inkblot test
