Visceral Peritoneum
The membrane that covers the abdominal organs.
Parietal Peritoneum
The membrane that lines the abdominal cavity.
Mesentery Proper
Attaches the jejunum and ileum to the posterior body wall.
Diaphragm
Muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominopelvic cavity.
Retroperitoneal Organs
Organs located behind the parietal peritoneum like the kidneys and ascending colon.
Intraperitoneal Organs
Organs wrapped in visceral peritoneum and surrounded by the peritoneal cavity, such as the stomach and liver.
Pericardial Sac
The fibrous and serous membranes that enclose the heart.
Myocardium
The muscular layer of the heart wall.
Atrioventricular Valves
Valves located between the atria and ventricles of the heart.
Semilunar Valves
Valves located at the exit of the heart leading into the pulmonary trunk and the aorta.
Thyrocervical Arteries
Arteries that supply blood to the thyroid gland and neck.
Celiac Artery
Artery that supplies blood to the foregut.
Thoracic Duct
The largest lymphatic vessel in the body that drains lymph into the bloodstream.
Capsule
The outer layer of a lymph node.
Neutrophil
A type of white blood cell important for fighting infections.
Megakaryocyte
A large bone marrow cell that produces platelets.
Lumen
The inside space of a tubular structure such as a blood vessel.
Tunica Media
The middle layer of blood vessel walls, primarily composed of muscle.
