What is Cloud Computing?
The practice of using a network on a remote server hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data.
Dedicated Server
A single physical machine owned by one business that runs a single web-app/site.
Virtual Private Server
A single physical machine that uses virtualization to create sub-machines that runs multiple web-apps/sites.
Shared Hosting
An inexpensive method that uses one physical machine shared between businesses making for poor isolation and limited utilization.
Cloud Hosting
Multiple machines working together as a single system (distributed computing) abstracted into many cloud services.
SQS
Simple Queue Service: First AWS service launched in 2004.
S3
Simple Storage Service launched early 2006.
EC2
Elastic Compute Cloud launched later 2006.
Cloud Service Provider
A company providing multiple cloud services accessed via a single unified API, with capabilities such as cloud architecture, cloud traacking, and metered billing.
