New Moon
You can't see the moon because it is between the Earth and the Sun. This is also the first phase of the moon.

Waxing Crescent
A phase of the moon coming after a new moon and before a 1st quarter moon that is a lit up crescent on the right.

First Quarter Moon
The moon's phase in which the moon appears as a half circle. The right half of the moon is visible as it grows toward a full moon.

Waxing Gibbous
More than half is lit or illuminated and increasing on the right side. Occurs right before the full moon.

Full Moon
Occurs when ALL of the Moon's surface facing Earth reflects light.
Waning Gibbous
More than half of the left side of the moon is illuminated.

Third Quarter
A phase of the moon in which the left half of the moon is illuminated.

Waning Crescent
Moon phase in which less than half of the moon is lit up on the left side.
