Scientific Method
The process that is used in scientific discoveries
Dalton
Atomic Theory. If you kept dividing an element, at some point it would get to the smallest point at which it would be indivisible. (Hence, the atom.) His diagram was a solid, microscopic sphere.
J.J. Thomson
Created the “Raisin bun” model Credited with the discovery of electrons, Discovered that an atom is a sphere (which is positive) with negative electrons embedded in it– like raisins in a bun.
Ernest Rutherford
Discovered the Neucleus. that atoms have a nucleus that is positive and accounts for most of the mass. Most of the atom is actually empty space occupied by moving negatively charged electrons. Proposed the idea of protons. Gold Sheet dude.
Niels Bohr
Created the Planitary Model. Discovered that electrons move in circular orbits around the nucleus and cannot exist between orbits. Problems: electrons actually behave like waves and aren’t stuck in one place.
James Chadwick
Neutrons. Showed that the nucleus must contain heavy neutral particles to account for all the atom’s missing mass.
Schrodinger de Broglie
Created the Quantum mechanical model. Discovered that electrons have distinct energy levels. Exact locations of electrons are not defined, but the probable location in a region of space can be predicted. (Cloud Model.)
Dimitri Mendeleev
Created the periodic table of elements
