What is C-Spine
A portion of the spinal cord that is found on your neck: controls ventilation & injuries (can cause quadriplegia)

What is Blood Pressure
Measure of pressure exerted against the walls of the artieries as your heart is contracting and relaxing to circulate blood
What is systolic pressure
pressure from heart contracting (pushing blood out)
What is diastolic pressure
pressure from ehart relaxing (refilling blood)
Important factors to keep in mind when measuring Blood Pressure
instruct patient to uncross legs
ask for arm preference
DO NOT take BP on same side as a mastectomy (removal of breast) or shunts/fistulas (connect a vein with an artery)
Difference between Auscultation and Palpation
Auscultation: using a stethoscope to listen for the first and last “bumps”
Palpation: alternative method for loud environment where you cannot hear through auscultation
