CAD MODULE 1

Application Menu

A menu that provides access to file-related commands such as New, Open, Save, Print, Export, and Close.

Ribbon

The main toolbar at the top of the AutoCAD window that organizes commands into tabs and panels (e.g., Home, Insert, Annotate)

File Tab

A tab used to manage drawings, allowing users to create, open, save, and switch between drawing files.

Program Title Bar

The topmost bar of the application window that displays the name of the program and the current drawing file.

Info Center

A search and help area that allows users to access AutoCAD Help, online resources, and Autodesk account information

View Cube

A navigation tool that lets users quickly change the orientation of a 3D model or drawing (Top, Front, Isometric, etc.).

Drawing Area

The main workspace where users create, edit, and view drawings.

Pickbox

A small square cursor used to select objects in the drawing

Crosshair

The large cross-shaped cursor used for drawing, selecting, and accurately locating points in the drawing area.

A bar located at the bottom of the screen that displays coordinate information and provides quick access to drafting tools such as Grid, Snap, Ortho, Polar Tracking, and Object Snap.

Command Window

A text interface where users enter commands, receive prompts, and view command history

Model Tab

The tab used to create and edit drawings in full scale (1:1) within model space.

Layout Tab

A tab used to prepare drawings for printing by creating viewports, title blocks, and paper layouts

UCS (User Coordinate System) Icon

A symbol that shows the orientation of the X, Y, and Z axes, helping users determine the current drawing plane and coordinate direction.

Navigation Bar

A toolbar containing navigation tools such as Pan, Zoom, Orbit, and Steering Wheels for viewing the drawing.

Quick Access Toolbar

A customizable toolbar that provides one-click access to commonly used commands such as Save, Undo, Redo, and New.

Visual Style

A display setting that changes how objects appear in the drawing area, such as Wireframe, Hidden, Realistic, or Shaded.

Line L

Draws a straight line between two or more points

Polyline PL

Draws connected line and arc segments as a single object

Circle C

Creates a circle using a center point and radius or diameter.

Arc A

Draws a curved line or arc.

Rectangle REC

Creates a rectangle by specifying two opposite corners

Polygon POL

Draws a regular polygon with a specified number of sides.

Ellipse EL

Creates an ellipse or elliptical arc.

Spline SPL

Draws a smooth curve through specified points.

Point PO

Places a point object in the drawing.

Hatch H

Fills an enclosed area with a pattern, solid, or gradient.

Move M

Moves selected objects to another location.

Copy CO or CP

Creates duplicate copies of selected objects.

Rotate RO

Rotates objects around a base point.

Mirror MI

Creates a mirrored copy of selected objects.

Scale SC

Enlarges or reduces the size of selected objects.

Stretch S

Stretches selected objects while maintaining their connections.

Offset O

Creates parallel or concentric copies of objects at a specified distance.

Trim TR

Removes unwanted portions of objects.

Extend EX

Extends objects until they meet another object.

Fillet F

Rounds the corner between two objects with a specified radius

Chamfer CHA

Creates a beveled edge between two objects

Array AR

Creates multiple copies of objects in a pattern (Rectangular, Polar, or Path).

Explode X

Separates a compound object into individual objects.

Join J

Combines separate objects into one object where possible.

Erase E

Deletes selected objects from the drawing

Break BR

Breaks an object into two parts or removes a segment.

Divide DIV

Divides an object into equal segments by placing points.

Measure MEA

Places points at specified intervals along an object.

Zoom Z

Changes the magnification of the drawing view.

Pan P

Moves the drawing view without changing magnification.

Undo U

Reverses the last action performed.

Redo REDO

Restores the last undone action.

Save Ctrl + S

Saves the current drawing

Open Ctrl + O

Opens an existing drawing file.

New Ctrl + N

Creates a new drawing

Print / Plot PLOT

Prints or plots the drawing to paper or PDF

Layer LA

Opens the Layer Properties Manager to create and manage layers.

Match Properties MA

Copies the properties of one object to another.

Properties PR

Displays and edits the properties of selected objects

Dimension DIM

Creates dimensions such as linear, angular, radius, and diameter.

Text DT

Creates single-line text.

Multiline Text MT

Creates paragraph-style text

Block B

Creates a reusable block from selected objects

Insert I

Inserts a block or drawing into the current drawing.

Object Snap OS

Enables precise selection of geometric points (endpoint, midpoint, center, etc.).

Regen RE

Regenerates the drawing display for improved accuracy.
