What is a cell?
The smallest unit of an organism.
What is a tissue?
A group of cells of the same type.
What is an organ?
A group of tissues that work together to perform a function.
Types of animal cells
Red blood cell
Nerve cell
Sperm cell
Muscle cell
Egg cell
Epithelial cell
Type of plant cells
Root hair cell
Palisade cell
Sicve cell
Define nucleus.
Contains the genetic material that controls the activity of the cell.
Define cytoplasm.
Gel-like substance where chemical reactions takes place.
Define mitochondria.
Where respiration takes place.
Define ribosomes.
Tiny structures where protein synthesis occurs.
Define chloroplast.
An organelle that contains the green pigment chlorophyll which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis. Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis.
Define cell membrane.
Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
Define cell wall.
Made of cellulose. Supports and strengthens the cell.
Define large vacuole.
Contains cell sap, weak solution for sugar and it helps keep the cell swollen.
What are the similarities between plant and animal cells?
They both have a nucleus, ribosomes, mitochondria, cytoplasm, cell membrane.
What is the differences between plant and animal cells?
Animal cells do not have a cell wall, chloroplast and a vacuole. Only the plant cell has all these things.
