blood pressure readings
Systolic pressure/Diastolic pressure
Blood pressure readings are given in two numbers.
The top number is the maximum pressure the heart exerts while beating (systolic pressure).
The bottom number is the amount of pressure in the arteries between beats (diastolic pressure).
Example: 120/80
normal systolic pressure
normal: < 120
prehypertension: 120-139
high blood pressure:
stage 1: 140-159
stage 2: 160 or above
normal diastolic pressure
normal: < 80
prehypertension: 80-89
high blood pressure:
stage 1: 90-99
stage 2: 100 or above
