The orbital apex is an important anatomical region because it serves as the gateway through which the optic nerve, ophthalmic artery, cranial nerves controlling eye movements, sensory, and major orbital veins enter or leave the orbit. Consequently, diseases or injuries in this small area can produce severe visual impairment, eye movement abnormalities, and sensory deficits simultaneously.
Describe how the location of the optic canal and the superior orbital fissure make the orbital apex an important anatomical region.
If the orbital rim and orbital septum were absent, the eye would have less protection and support. The eye would be more easily injured and infections could also spread into the orbit more easily. lastly, the eye would also be less stable in its normal position.

The sharing of orbital bones with the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses has both advantages and disadvantages
Advantage:
Air-filled sinuses reduces the weight of the skull while still providing support for the orbit.
Disadvantage:
Infections or tumours from the sinuses can easily spread into the orbit, and fractures of the thin orbital walls can involve the sinuses, leading to eye injuries or vision problems.
Many orbital bones are shared with the nasal cavity and paranasal sunuses. Discuss the anatomical advantages and disadvantages of this arrangement.
Even thought he medial wall is the thinnest, the orbital floor is more commonly fractured because it receives most of the force from a direct blow to the eye. The orbital floor is also larger and less supported which makes it more likely to break.
