The Paris Peace Conference

Collective Security
A principle where each nation’s security depends on that of all member nations with the goal of universal peace.
League of Nations
An organization formed to foster cooperation among nations, composed of trusted democratic countries.
Weaknesses of the League of Nations
Relied on moral obligations instead of enforceable policies, economic sanctions not always beneficial, and lacked U.S. participation.
Internationalism
A policy of cooperation among nations.
Successor States
Countries that emerge from the breakup of a previously well-established state.
Mandates
Territories granted to a League member to establish a government.
Russian Civil War
Conflict that led to the breakup of the Russian Empire into several independent republics.
Global Depression
A worldwide economic downturn caused by the effects of World War I.
Economic Boom
A period when the economy performs well, leading to increased sales of goods abroad.
