When was the law enforced?

What did it mean?
Required Black men over the age of 16 to carry a ‘pass book’ which noted all the areas they were allowed to move through or be in.
What happened if they went against the law?
If people were caught without a pass book or in an area they weren’t supposed to be in they would be put in jail.
What was it made for?
Was made to prevent blacks from entering white areas - wanted them to feel inferior
What was the prison rates like in SA?
During this time, SA has one of the highest rates of daily prison population in the world. The majority would have been from people who went against this law.
