Out-of-Band Management (OOB)
Refers to any method of managing the server that does not use
What advantages does Out-of-Band management provide?
It offers a solution when the network is down or the device is inaccessible.
It manages devices with no power and remotely reboots devices with no power and remotely rebotts device that have been crashed, turned off, hibernating, or in sleep mode.
Remote Drive Access (Connecting to a remote, or the drive of a remote server.)
One of the things you can do with OOB management.
Is typically done through a serial connection.
Can be a DB-9 style connector or a specially wired 8-pin modular (RJ style) connector.
iLO (Integrated Lights-Out)
A technology embedded in HP servers that allows for OOB management of the server.
The physical connection is an Ethernet port that will be on the server and will be labeled iLO.
iLO functions out of the box without additional software installation, regardless of the server’s state of operation.
Give you complete access to the server from any location via a web browser or the iLO Mobile App.
iDRAC (intergrated Dell Remote Access Card)
Provides OOB management for Dell servers.
There will be a port on the back of the server that looks like an Ethernet port that functions as the iDRAC port. It is labeled the designated system management port.
Once configured, the port will present the technician with an interface on their computer, which is connected to the port when the connection is established.
