Process of determining the expected quantities and cost of the materials, labor, and equipment for a construction project.
What is the Work or Scope of Work?
“The construction and services required by the contract documents…and includes all other labor, materials, equipment and services provided or to be provided by the contractor to fulfill the contractor’s obligations
What role does estimating play in the success of a construction company/
If bids are too low, company will lose money.
If bids are too high, company will lose work.

What is the roll of an Estimator?
Preparing cost estimates

What skills are required to be a good estimator?

Conceptual
Preliminary
Final or Detailed
What is Conceptual Estimate?
Least accurate
Based on description of the project or very limited drawings
Used to study the feasibility of a project or comparison of design alternatives.
What is Preliminary Estimate?
Used to establish a budget.
Performed when drawings are partially complete (35% - 50%)
More accurate than conceptual estimate
What is Final or Detailed Estimate?
Most accurate, drawings are 100%

Contractor is reimbursed for actual costs plus a fixed fee.
Could be 5-10%
