Emotion
A complex pattern of changes including physiological arousal, feelings, cognitive processes and behavioral reactions, made in response to a situation perceived to be personally significant.
Physiological Changes
Bodily changes that occur in response to emotions, such as increased heartbeat and rise in blood pressure.
Emotional Intelligence
The ability to understand and manage one's own emotions and to be sensitive to others' feelings.
Nonverbal Behavior
Observable changes that may indicate emotions, where the connection between verbalizing emotions and nonverbal reactions can be complex.
Cognitive Interpretations
How the mind impacts emotions; involves the process of reappraisal, which is rethinking the meaning of events to alter emotional impact.
Verbal Expression
The use of specific words to express various degrees of emotional intensity.
