Chemical Reaction
Is a process that has a chemical change in which starting materials (reactant) are different from products.
Evidence of Chemical Reactions
Temperature (Exothermic: heat released, endothermic: heat absorbed), gas produced (odour), change in color, precipitate is formed (solid comes out of solution), light or sound, and substance disappears.
Synthesis
A + B → A-B (2H2 + 02 = 2H2O)
Coming more simpler atoms to form a compound
Decomposition
A-B → A + B. A reactant breaks down into two or more products. (2H20 → 2H2 + O2)
Single Displacement
A-B + C → A-C + B. One elemnt takes the place of another element in a compound. (2FeI3 + 3F2 → 2FEF3 + 3I2
Double Displacement
A-B + C-D → A-C + B-D. An element from each of 2 compounds switches places. (MgO + CaS → MgS + CaO)
Combustion
Occurs when a fuel reacts with oxygen to create an oxide, usually when hydrocarbon with oxygen to carbon dioxide and water. (Fuel + O2 → CO2 + H2O + heat + light)
Neutralization
Acid reacts with a base to produce a type of salt and water. (NaOH {aq} + HCl{aq} → NaCl {aq} + H2O)
Triangle
Heat on arrow.
