what is phototropism
growing towards the light
what is gravitropism
growing in same direction of gravity
what are the roots are shoots of a plant
Root- below the germinating seed that grows positively gravitropic
Shoots- above the germinating seed that grows positively phototropic
what is Auxin
Plant hormone that allows plant to grow towards or away from plant stimulus
what is the role of Auxin in a plant 4
released at tip of shoot or root and diffuses downwards
Auxin stimulates cell elongation
Auxin accumulates on shaded side of plant
if light is on diagonal to sun then plant will bend towards the light
what happens when auxin is on the root and shoot of a germinating seed 4
the Auxin accumulates on lower side of root and shoot
As Auxin stimulates cell elongation, the roots and shoots will grow and bend
And as Roots are positively gravitropic, they will grow in the direction of gravity
And as shoots are positively Phototropic, they will grow towards the light and upwards.
