Corona

The outermost region of the sun's atmosphere. Only visible during a solar eclipse.

Photosphere

The visible surface of the sun.

Convection Zone

outermost layer of sun's interior below the photosphere

Core

Center of the sun where hydrogen and Helium Combine in nuclear Fusion

Solar Flare

An eruption of gas from the sun's surface that occurs when the loops in sunspot regions suddenly connect

Radiation Zone

the middle layer of the sun's interior where energy travels between the core and convection zone by electromagnetic radiation.

Solar Prominence

A flame-like arc extending out from the Suns surface near sunspots

Chromosphere

A layer of the sun's atmosphere (extending from the photosphere to the corona) that is visible during a total eclipse of the sun

Sunspot

A cooler and darker spot appearing periodically on the sun's photosphere
